Gallery
The Commercial is a contemporary art gallery founded in 2012, recognised for its critical focus and long-term support of artists working at the forefront of conceptually and materially driven practice.
The Commercial represents a group of singular Australian artists and works closely with them on exhibitions at the gallery and external projects. Artists represented by the gallery have a strong presence in institutional collections and exhibition programmes and biennials internationally. They are recipients of significant prizes and produce works for the public domain.
In 2024, Kamilaroi/Bigambul artist Archie Moore presented a solo exhibition, kith and kin, in the Australia Pavilion at the Venice Biennale. The exhibition was awarded the Golden Lion for Best National Participation. The Commercial negotiated the acquisition of kith and kin by the Australian Government and its joint donation to Queensland Art Gallery | Gallery of Modern Art and Tate.
The Commercial participates regularly in art fairs. It has exhibited at Art Basel Hong Kong, Auckland Art Fair, Frieze London, Melbourne Art Fair and Sydney Contemporary.
The Commercial is located in Sydney, Australia, in a 350-square-metre industrial warehouse with concrete walls, eight-metre-high ceilings, and illuminated by natural light.
